*Quick Lower Body Workout

READ FIRST! Only start an exercise program after speaking to your doctor if you have not worked out in a while or have health issues.

Warm up 5-10 minutes with a bath, walk, run, jump rope, jumping jacks, hoola-hoop…

Start without weights or light weights. However, you want to be sure you feel tired after lifting 8-10 times, or repetitions/reps. Now you’ve completed one set. When you are ready to add a second set, rest at least 2 minutes. For more of a challenge, rest 30 seconds. Work up to three sets.

Start by exercising 2 times per week, at least one day of rest in between. Add your third day when ready.

You can do whole body strength, with one day of rest in between. Or you can alternate lower and upper body strength, resting always on Sunday. Yet, move with a light bike ride, walk or exercise of choice.

The body was made to move! Have fun, be safe, and let me know if you have any questions!

*Movie: The Most Reluctant Convert- C.S. Lewis

This movie came out last month for one night only. So a dear neighbor went with me and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was original in its partial one-man play format with important characters dialoguing at critical parts. Some were Lewis’ mother, whose faith influenced him, though she passed early in Lewis’ life. Next, his father, a stern man whose influence drove Lewis away from his faith. Then there was J.R.R. Tolkien and a colleague at Oxford, last name Barfield, and others.

But it was the dialogue with Barfield that struck me. Lewis was a huge believer in science, yet believed something more was going on. I paraphrase when I say that Barfield stated that with this logic, we might be no more than atoms bouncing around in our skulls. Lewis could not accept this, for he believed the human soul pointed to something more.

It’s worth watching to see how he comes to peace with his newfound faith that had simply been buried beneath the grief from losing his mother and fighting in WW1 with all the trauma he witnessed.

After the movie, I took some time to listen to his own words and watched more videos. I cannot recall which source stated this, but it was a comfort to know even Lewis could get disillusioned with his own desires. He wrote poetry and apparently wasn’t very good. If I recall, this angered him, until he came to peace with what he did best, storytelling. The world has been changed for the better through the Chronicles of Narnia and other stories, as well as his philosophical books such as Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, Miracles and more.

I first “met” Lewis in college. My English professor, Mr. Palmer had us read the great Divorce, an allegory on the separation between Heaven and hell. I was so enthralled I dreamed I went on my own bus ride as Lewis did in the book.

If you are a Clive Staples Lewis fan, you will enjoy this movie written by Max McLean, who also plays the main role. McLean is known for not only being an actor, but the voice on many audio Bible versions.

*To New Beginnings

Rocks, Beach, Sea, Ocean, Sun, Sunset

Today's Music Selection: Andreas Vollenweider's Moon Dance. Vollenweider gained attention in the 1980's as a jazz harpist. Enjoy while reading!

Since the mid 2000s, Coffee At My Table has been a wonderful blog to share the best stories, memories or advice I've come across. As a self-leaner, I want to credit those who said it first. Most of these thoughts come from those who I believe can help move us forward.

Age does something wonderful to you. As I reread some posts, I realized they were outdated, irrelevant or needed more data. So I updated, deleted or amended them. I also linked my original Coffee At My Table (CAMT) blog in the column on the right. When I got locked out of my original blog, I started CAMT2 which is linked as well.

This will be a general blog for now. I realize your time is valuable, so I hope to keep the reads and videos less than five minutes. I will be highlighting these topics randomly. I won't be posting everyday, but only as something relevant comes along such as:

1) The Spiritual; 2) People Who've Made A difference - known or unknown; 3) Health - Body, Nutrition, skin care, et. al.; 4) Pop Culture and World Events; 5) Random thoughts not covered by the other categories.

I hope 2020 has been a growing experience for you, that you know you're loved if you lost anything or anyone, and that 2021 is a great time to take care of you so you can be your best self.
